*Alphitomancy: The use of barley meal as a means of divination.

There was a strange craft practised by the witches of the country. It was a type of divination which used barley meal, alphitomancy they called it. Now city witches would never mock the practices of their country associates but it was simply impossible for them to allow the strange craft to be added to the magic school elective courses.

And thus began the country witches’ boycott of the magic school in 1578.
