Saturday Word of the Day: Vernacularize

*Vernacularize: to translate into the natural speech peculiar to a people

Vernacularize, v-e-r-n-a-c-u-l-a-r-i-z-e, vernacularize.

Spelling the word out in her head, as if she was a fifth grader during a spelling bee, did not help. The deadline for her piece on the word of the day was due into the paper any second now, and it still wasn’t written. This job was her life-blood, she couldn’t lose it, and so she stared the word down on her computer screen.

She had tried reading the dictionary definition, tried reading examples of the word in use but like all her romantic hopes and aspirations the word escaped her. There was nothing but the word in the document, her mind was blank, she just could not think of what to write for the word vernacularize.

– END –

* Okay so like the character in this story this word really tripped me up, usually I’ll try to actually use the word properly but hey sometimes words are hard to understand.
