Prompt: A box falls from the sky

Word Limit: 350 words

“Thud” the noise came from outside, in the back garden. Nelly wasn’t bothered by the noise and continued to play her game on the computer. When one is busy slaying demons and saving the world not much matters, when one wear headphones and blast the volume so they can hear every in game sound nothing matters.

Terry on the other hand was intrigued by the sound and zipped down the stairs the instant he heard the noise. He bolted past the computer room, but then whizzed backwards to yell at his sister.

“Nelly! Nelly! Did you hear that noise? Did you hear it?”

Nelly ignored him, as anyone absorbed in a good video game does when they are fully immersed. After being ignored Terry decided not to bother his sister and to make haste to the garden to investigate the sound. He flew at the door and low and behold was he surprised by what he saw.

It wasn’t anything particularly strange, just your average cardboard box lying on the ground. Sure it was a little banged up but it was a box. Nothing peculiar about it, except the fact that it shouldn’t be in their backyard, Terry was disappointed by the lack of strangeness but perturbed by its presence.

“Why is this here? Where did it come from?”

Terry announced to nobody but himself, for a moment he stared at the box and then he stared at it for another moment. After a brief period of moments staring at the box he finally decided to get a closer look at this seemingly normal cardboard box.

Meanwhile Nelly continued to play her video game and ignore the outside world, oblivious to the fact that her brother had yelled at her earlier or of the fact that there had been a strange sound.

“What the FLIP?” Nelly heard Terry’s extreme exclamation, even though she had her headphones on. So of course she made the decision to ignore the exclamation and continue her game, she could ask him about it later.

Outside, Terry was exacerbated by his discovery- it was a package, it was labelled for a house in a different state and was from another state. It must have fallen from a post plane, it was not interesting.
